Humanity sometimes displays a remarkable capacity for kindness. We show compassion to strangers in need, give up our time and belongings, and aim to make the world a more compassionate place. Yet, this inherent humanity is often challenged by acts of cruelty. This presents a paradox: how can a species so capable of empathy also be capable of such d
